About Willard Alternative High School Program

Willard Alternative High School Program serves students who seek a non-traditional learning setting in grades 9–12 within the Missoula County Public Schools system. With a flexible and supportive atmosphere, Willard offers small, personalized classes—often smaller than 10 students per teacher—designed to support academic success, social-emotional well-being, and real-world readiness.

Mission & Values

Willard’s mission is to empower and inspire students by providing a flexible, individual-centered approach that promotes self-direction, resilience, and personal growth. We believe that every learner deserves a respectful, caring environment where they are encouraged to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Academic Approach

Our curriculum is tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. We offer core academic coursework along with options such as project-based learning, credit recovery, dual credit classes, and community-based work experiences. This personalized model allows students to progress at their own pace while receiving meaningful supports.

Student Support & Culture

At Willard, student wellness is central. Each student benefits from close mentoring relationships, frequent check-ins, and collaboration with on-site support staff. Flexible scheduling and a stress-reducing environment help reduce barriers and foster motivation and confidence.

Real-World Connections

The program emphasizes connections beyond the classroom through community partnerships, internships, job-shadowing, and opportunities to build workplace skills. These experiences help students explore career interests and develop practical life skills.
